Susan Aycock Smith is the Change that the Hall County Board of Education Needs
The North Georgia Advocate Podcast is proud to officially endorse Susan Aycock Smith for the Hall County Board of Education At-Large seat in the June 16 runoff election. Susan will bring a breath of fresh air to the board. She has great ideas and has already been involved for the last couple of years.
Susan is running because she has spent nearly two years closely watching how the school board operates — and she believes it’s time for a stronger parent and community voice at the table.
Why We’re Endorsing Susan Aycock Smith
Susan stands out for several key reasons:
- She has done the work. Susan has attended 38 of the last 40 Hall County Board of Education meetings. She didn’t just show up for the campaign — she has been there consistently, taking notes, asking questions, and learning how the system really works.
- She brings real-world experience. As a former Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Gainesville State College, Susan understands education from the classroom level. She knows what good instruction looks like and what students actually need.
- She wants accountability and basics. Susan is focused on getting the school system back to fundamentals — strong reading and math instruction, transparency in decision-making, and putting students and parents first instead of bureaucracy.
- She is independent. Susan is not part of the current political establishment. She is running because she saw problems up close and decided to do something about it.
Her opponent in the runoff is Joe Anglin. While we respect the democratic process, we believe Susan’s deep research, consistent attendance, and clear focus on improving outcomes for Hall County students make her the stronger choice. He has not been to hardly any functions. We have heard he is a supporter of the status quo as well. He has not campaigned at all. Has no website or social media pages.
We can't put the future of our kids in the hands of someone that we don't know where they stand on the issues. He was a teacher for 26 years and was on the Flowery Branch City Council, but other that that we know nothing about this man. He may be a great guy. Who really knows outside of the people in his area?
Hall County deserves better and with Susan you will get that.
